Windows 10 Search Wildcards

I've been having trouble with search results. Files that I know for sure are in the searched folder are not being returned when using File Explorer search. And using wildcards no longer seems to work.

A quick Google search of the web has turned up reports of others having this issue - but then Google always turns up only completely factual, accurate, trustworthy information doesn't it?

I'd appreciate hearing from Windows Central folks if you have any suggestions for getting better Search results. Thanks.

Normally I'd jump in here but Thumper has a incredible knowledge of file searching/manipulation programs for Windows. I have a couple I use across my systems. My take is Explorer is too closely tied to the operating system which limits it's utility. Some of the replacements are freeware and do a far better job while adding useful features.

Well, wildcards still work.

for a better oversight, I use now for years the TotalCommander. searching there is a cakewalk. (for those who still know the Norton Commander... u know what I mean )

I'd be willing to bet one of those freeware apps is called "Everything". It's my favorite search app. Super fast.

Everything is super fast yes...but ONLY for file names. As for searching inside files, their site says:
"Does Everything search file contents?
Yes, "Everything" can search file content with the content: search function.
File content is not indexed, searching content is slow."

Yes they work, i have virus detectors build this way.
