Thanks for your reply. I'm not looking to wipe the whole disk. Just unallocated space. I did run the command as admin. Would booting into safe mode first help?
So, I have an old HDD that has data on it (no OS) and I want to secure wipe/erase all unallocated space on it. I've tried running the cipher command 3x and it has failed to finish every time. Once it got to the point where it's writing all ones (FFFF) and just hung. The other two times it hung...
After doing more digging, it appears the floppy (Sony model# MPF82E ) is only compatible with
Windows 98 SE, Windows 2000 Professional, Windows Me, or Windows XP

I came across some old floppy disks a few weeks ago and decided to buy an external floppy drive to see what was on them. When I plug it into MULTIPLE USB ports, I hear it trying to read the floppy disk.
When I go to Explorer, it doesn't show up there (not as A: or any other drive letter)...
