Nuclear generators are a great idea except for 2 difficulties. The first problem is human operators. There are good operators and less then good who both end up doing that job. Add to that given everything is going well the job becomes rather tedious and boring, this leads to operators having brain farts and can result in very bad things taking place. Keep in mind those operators have a home life, maybe a wife and some kids. Things don't always go well in those situations and being human beings the operators can't just turn off home life when they clock into the job.
Then there is the waste that is generated. It ain't pretty and lasts for decades and centuries. It causes genetic damage and the resulting cancer to start with. If that waste is a result of an accident it can spread uncontrolled over a large area.
Granted it is one of the very few methods of electrical generation that does not result in CO2 emissions, it does have drawbacks with very lethal consequences.
I have always thought that fusion reactors might be a better solution if they could ever be possible.
That being said the majority of the electricity I consume as well as the manufacturing plant I am the IT head of are within eyeshot of twin nuclear reactors that produce a great deal of electricity. I just hope they never experience an event.
