Hello Windows Insiders, today we are releasing Windows 11 Insider Preview Build 25163 to the Dev Channel.

TL;DR

  • We have a few new features including a new taskbar overflow experience and some improvements for sharing files.
  • As always, this build includes a good set of fixes too.
  • We are rolling out a new Microsoft Store update with some improvements – details below.

What’s new

Taskbar Overflow

We're reintroducing taskbar overflow, with a newly designed experience for Windows 11. This taskbar experience has been thoughtfully crafted to offer you a more productive switching and launching experience when space is constrained. Your taskbar will automatically transition into this new overflow state when it has hit its maximum capacity. In this state, taskbar will offer an entry point to an overflow menu that allows you to view all your overflowed apps in one space. Taskbar will offer an entry point to an overflow menu that allows you to view all your overflowed apps in one space.[/caption] The overflow menu will contain many of the current taskbar behaviors users are familiar with, such as supporting pinned apps, jump list, and extended UI. After invoking overflow, the menu will quietly dismiss once you click outside of it or navigate to an application. Improved nearby sharing

The discovery of devices under nearby share when sharing a local file from the desktop, File Explorer, Photos, Snipping Tool, Xbox, and other apps that use the built-in Windows share window has been enhanced by using UDP (Network needs to be set to private) along with Bluetooth to discover nearby devices. You will now be able to discover and share to more devices including desktop PCs. Share local files to OneDrive

When sharing a local file from the desktop, File Explorer, Photos, Snipping Tool, Xbox, and other apps that use the built-in Windows share window, you can choose OneDrive as a target to directly upload the file to OneDrive and share it further along with access control options. All this can be done right from sharing local files in File Explorer without any context switches or opening the OneDrive app. [caption id="attachment_175759" align="alignnone" width="431"]You can choose OneDrive as a target to directly upload the file to OneDrive via the built-in Windows share window. A user will need to switch to their Microsoft account via the top right profile icon in the share window if logged in via AAD. AAD support will be added in a future update.) Fixes

[File Explorer]

  • Fixed an explorer.exe crash when dragging tabs around.
  • Did some work to fix a memory leak when using tabs with File Explorer.
  • Fixed an issue where the preview thumbnail for File Explorer in the taskbar, ALT + Tab, and Task View might show the title of an adjacent tab and not the currently selected one.
  • If “Show all folders” is enabled, the dividers in File Explorer’s navigation pane should no longer show. With this change, it should also address the issues where dividers were unexpectedly showing in some other folder pickers.
  • Fixed an issue where Narrator wasn’t reading out the titles of tabs as focus moved through them.
  • Fixed an issue where a closed tab might appear again in File Explorer after you dragged File Explorer across your monitors.
  • Fixed an issue where the tab row might unexpectedly expand vertically, covering the command bar contents.
  • Removable drives should no longer unexpectedly be displayed in a section by themselves in the navigation pane, which was breaking up the section with This PC and Network.
  • Fixed an issue where the add new tab button wasn’t clearly visible when using Aquatic or Desert contrast themes.
  • The add new tab button shouldn’t overlap with the minimize button in the title bar when using text scaling with a lot of tabs open anymore.

[Taskbar]

  • Fixed a rare explorer.exe crash that could happen while on a Microsoft Teams call, related to sharing windows from the taskbar.

[Settings]

  • Made a change to help fix an issue where using Windows Spotlight on the desktop might revert to a solid color background.
  • Improved the padding around the uninstall button when using Apps > Installed Apps in grid view.
  • Fixed a couple issues that could lead to Quick Settings crashing on launch.

[Input]

  • Fixed an issue which was leading to certain apps freezing after a copy action if Suggested Actions was enabled.

[Other]

  • Fixed a high hitting crash impacting suggested actions reliability.
NOTE: Some fixes noted here in Insider Preview builds from the Dev Channel may make their way into the servicing updates for the released version of Windows 11.

Known issues

[General]

  • We’re investigating reports that SQL Server Management Studio is failing to launch for some Insiders.
  • Some games that use Easy Anti-Cheat may crash or cause your PC to bugcheck.

[File Explorer]

  • The up arrow is misaligned in File Explorer tabs. This will be fixed in a future update.
  • We’re working on a fix to address reports that launching File Explorer in certain ways when using dark mode (for example, from the command line) is showing the body of File Explorer unexpectedly in light mode.

[Widgets]

  • Notification badge number may appear misaligned on the taskbar.
  • In some cases, the notification banner for some badging will not appear in the widgets board.
  • We’re working on the fix for an issue causing Widgets preferences (temperature units and pinned widgets) to unexpectedly get reset to default.

[Live captions]

  • Certain apps in full screen (e.g., video players) prevent live captions from being visible.
  • Certain apps positioned near the top of the screen and closed before live captions is run will re-launch behind the live captions window positioned at top. Use the system menu (ALT + Spacebar) while the app has focus to move the app’s window further down.

About the Dev Channel

The Dev Channel receives builds that represent long lead work from our engineers with features and experiences that may never get released as we try out different concepts and get feedback. It is important to remember that the builds we release to the Dev Channel should not be seen as matched to any specific release of Windows and the features included may change over time, be removed, or replaced in Insider builds or may never be released beyond Windows Insiders to general customers. For more information, please read this blog post about how we plan to use the Dev Channel to incubate new ideas, work on long lead items, and control the states of individual features. These aren’t always stable builds, and sometimes you will see issues that block key activities or require workarounds. It is important to make sure you read the known issues listed in our blog posts as we document many of these issues with each flight. Build numbers are higher in the Dev Channel than the Windows 11 preview builds in the Beta and Release Preview Channels. You will not be able to switch from the Dev Channel to the Beta or Release Preview Channels without doing a clean install back to the released version of Windows 11 currently. ALSO: Because the Dev and Beta Channels represent parallel development paths from our engineers, there may be cases where features and experiences show up in the Beta Channel first. The desktop watermark you see at the lower right corner of your desktop is normal for these pre-release builds.

BOLLACKS!

I beg your pardon, but what is it that you are on about... that you want to feel "secure" when you are being watched... or that you want to BE secure... and remove the "watchers.

Again.,, forgive me,,, but this subject of Windows 11 and regaling me about how you discover this and that and the other truly entertains me... how they "watch" you and this and that and the other... *chuckle* and you "DISCOVER" a jot or a tittle... and remove it... yet the underlying THING remains... but... pap for the masses... pap for the masses... give them something to "discover"... and "remove"... and they will settle back down and SWEAR BY IT...

If you are THERE... then YOU'VE GOT IT already~ and any discussion on the matter is MOOT!

Does this make sense... and if not, then I will appreciate a challenge in opposition to your seeming love for Windows 11... and yet at the same time... our utter WONDERMENT at how you can seemingly seem to be OFF-GRID to a system which you embrace,,, which simply does not allow that... ONCE YOU EAT OF ITS FRUIT!

Announcing Windows 7 Ultimate - Former Users REMINDER...

Everything that Windows 11 PROMOTES... but yet demands "fixes" and constant security and feature "updates"

Sort of reminds me of when Pinocchio left his dad... for lesser persuasions...

I will task my Windows 7 Ultimate against any other version after it... and if the only criticism is that MY Windows 7 is not "connected to the CLOUD (i.e, another person's computer)... then I will spit in my mess kit.

Here is the opening presentation of Windows 11... as it SHOULD HAVE BEEN
- 1m and 41s

Windows 7 Ultimate is OFF GRID!

Any other version after Windows 7 is simply a Nanny-State OS... which begins to divert the user to TRUST THE PLAN...

Do you LOVE Windows 10 and 11?

Fine by me,,, but my perception is that you like to be taken care of... and crap on those who REFUSE... or are "HESITANT"..............

Sound familiar?

But... I digress yet again... but no fear... because this MAD post that I am responding to is about as MAD as my reaction... yet which I have not had the time to recompose and formulate a PROPER response... as to why Windows 10 ans 11 is for SHEEP... who want to be MINDED... and NOT take responsibility for themselves.

And... in accordance with these forum rules... I offer my insistence that these and this post... and the words that I have typed... are purely of my own view and opinion... and that I acknowledge that I do not hold "The Windows Forum" responsible for anything I have typed and submitted... *chuckle*

Kind regards to ALL... and ALL the best wishes to YOURS and YOUR loved ones...
