I was messing around on a spare system and attempted to install a cracked version of Malwarebytes. It had an interesting payload, it tried to install a bitcoin miner program. Not sure where the code is executing yet, it is unrelenting. Interesting enough since it updated Malwarebytes is blocking the subprogram install.
I may follow up if I have a chance to take another look before I wipe C drive and install 11 which I was planning to do anyway.

Edit: BTW this is why even thinking about running a cracked version of an A/V program is complete stupidity. It's like the fox guarding the hen house. I was just messing around before I wiped and upgraded that system to Win 11.

With so many antiviruses and anti-malware offers why are you using a cracked version.
Just messing around to take a look at the crack. I was getting ready to wipe that system anyway and install Win 11.

Ok, ok.

Off-topic:
MS Windows 10 update support ends October 2025 and we will have to update to Win 11. Any suggestions about getting a genuine license?
If you have a Win 10 license embedded in your BIOS, at least for now you can automatically load Win 11 and it will be a valid copy of whatever version 10 your system was loaded from the factory (Pro or Home). If your current system is ineligible for Win 11 (CPU, TPM version), download the Win 11 OEM ISO from Microsoft and use Rufus (free d/l on web) and use it to strip Win 11 requirements. Load Win 11 from the bootable USB stick you prepared and your Win 10 license will be valid for Win 11 upgrade.
If your system is Win 11 ready the OEM should have any drivers you might need. So far the only drivers that don't load are Intel drivers. If you are having troubles finding them go to Intel's site and download and run their driver finder program. Personally I like to avoid using 3rd party driver finding programs, I don't trust them but that's my opinion.

What you are saying is like getting a patch (pen drive for example) or a new computer. The computer shop had a few great prices, like $80 for a laptop or any component replacement. Don't know if they still have so low cheap prices any longer.

Keys are for sale from legit sites for 20 bucks. They are OEM licenses with no direct support from Microsoft. Otherwise they work and update just fine. The limitation is you can't go running to Microsoft with any problems other than validation troubles.

A while since I came across a digi miner addin. Last one I came across hid out in Scheduled items and a two file pack tucked away in the Windows Drivers folder. From the look of the code it was along the lines of the old clone virus that moved around the system folder and updated the string in registry and scheduler each boot time. I know a lot of this type of "Scuse me while I score your bandwidth to make a dollar" software originates through sites like Softonic who (and I quote here) "Never modify or change any files on our site. We are a trusted and reputable download source" and of course I trust them implicitly, they are my first goto site to find any new virus or Malware if im feeling friendly.

Bring back some of the old favourites and downloadable fun packs, Best one i had was an Ambulance sprite moving icons around your desktop;

Yeah it seems there was a slowing in those make a quick buck injecting our software into someone's system. Too many make a quick buck from affiliate payments self-styled entrepreneurs roaming the Internet making a resurgence once again.
