Hi everyone,

So I've tried a few forums and searched online, but I haven't been able to find a way to do this yet, hopefully someone here can help me.
I want to disable the "Data usage" feature that's found in Setting>Network & Internet>Advanced network settings>Data usage, how would I do that?
I've turned off "Activity history" in the Privacy and security section of settings, but it's still tracking.

Any help would be appreciated.

Hello!

To turn off the Data usage tracking in Windows, you can try disabling network tracking through the Group Policy Editor, which is found in your system's administrative settings. Alternatively, you can adjust a specific setting in the Registry Editor to minimize network tracking.

Another option is to stop the Network List Service in your Services settings, which can limit data usage tracking but may impact certain network features.

Thanks,
Mike Taku.

What Mike says will do the trick, but if you don't like modifying the Registry and such there are a couple free software solutions that make it easy.
O&O ShutUp
Spybot-anti-beacon
Both have a free version for home users and are easy to use.
What you are going to find is that every windows update will reset your changes to what Micro$oft wants.

The question becomes why is this important? I think you will find if this is anything but a personal computer that you have full admin privileges you will find your way blocked no matter what you try. Prove me wrong, why do you feel a need to disable data usage?

Hi Mike,

Thanks for your answer. I'm not too skilled at this more advanced IT controls so I'm going to stay away from the Registry Editor so that I don't break anything. I did check the Group Policy Editor, but couldn't locate a setting to enable/disable that seemed to be directly related to the data tracking.

I appreciate your answer though, thank you.

Thank you, I couldn't come right with Mike's answer within the bounds of my level of knowledge for the more advanced Windows stuff.

I will try those programs, thank you.

It's a shared personal computer that I have admin rights to. I want to keep a bit more privacy regarding how I the data is being used. No serious things are being hidden I guess, because there's only so much you can glean from that 'report'. But I'd prefer if it were disabled.

Well if you are unsure using the group policy editor or going into the registry, Starhawk's solutions are the only answer. Permanently disabling can't happen. Just make sure your usage and history while you are at it are cleared after you are finished with a session.
