I recently installed Linux Mint. From what I've read, I expected a fast I5 laptop. But on the contrary, it became much slower. Could that be right?

Wrong forum, however I am surprised you have that problem. According to the Linux folks it's the best thing since sliced bread. Man I was just getting ready to load up a system here with Linux. Maybe it's the flavor you are using?

The DOG is correct, only reason I can thinkk of is that your i5 lappy aint that hot, or you havent sorted out the drivers properly and missed a bus somewhere along the route.
Linux kind of likes being hand held threw installation and from experience it usually requires a fair amount of machine knowledge.

I prefer Ubuntu nearest setup to plug and play you will find.
