Microsoft joins the Supporters of Chromium-Based Browsers

Microsoft is pleased to join the Supporters of Chromium-Based Browsers, a new initiative launched by the Linux Foundation, which will help drive collaboration, technological advancement, and sustainability within the Chromium open-source projects. The Supporters of Chromium-Based Browsers initiative aligns with our commitment to the web platform through meaningful community engagements, engineering collaborations, and code contributions to achieve the best outcome for everyone using the web. Six years ago, Microsoft announced that we would adopt the Chromium open-source project for our Edge browser. Today, our open-source principles remain unchanged and we continue to directly contribute to Chromium, bringing our expertise to the project, on behalf of web developers, to improve Edge and other Chromium-based browsers. By joining the Supporters of Chromium-Based Browsers, we're furthering our commitment to the project and to the web platform and believe that this initiative will help in the following ways:
  • Increase the diversity in Chromium contributions by acting as a neutral channel for third-party organizations.
  • Provide clear and open governance that directs funds towards community-driven needs.
We are excited to join participating organizations including Google, Meta, Opera and others to work together with the broader open-source community to advance the web platform on behalf of developers and users' needs.
