Plex Media Server - Plex Media Server

Plex Media Server is an application that allows you to make your PC media server. After installing the program and make the necessary settings, you'll be able to access multimedia files with other computer devices. It is very convenient, for example, if you have several computers at home and want to listen to music or watch a movie, being on another PC. There is no need to transfer files with an external drive. When using Plex Media Server, access to all...

As much as I try to love this program, it does too much to a catalog I have that's constantly changing.
I cut the cord some time ago and very happy I did. TV commercials make me feel very stupid among other things. The only thing I really need real-time is local and national news and they are available either as a direct feed or on one of the free programs side-loaded on my fire-cube.
Anything else I can have the series episode whether it's a weekday daily or a once a week show ~ 12 hours after airing with no commercials.
So the point is I have a huge turn over of TV series on top of an insanely large movie collection on my WD pr4100 NAS 4 x 10TB drives. Sifting thru all the info that Pex provides with a collection that size is bloodly untendable sifting through all the pictures, etc.
I can see if I had a current collection of IMDB 6.5+ and RT score of 75+ it migt work for me. I have had this discussion with fellow users like me and it's the same answer.
SO
If you are a casual user and don't have huge archives it can be a useful tool. For the serious collector, save yourself some pain. Cleaning up what it leaves behind when you are done with the program was no picnic even with Revo lending a hand.

Ever tried EMBY I like it better than plex https://emby.media
I will. Never heard of it until now. My problem is all.the movies and shows I have archived. I am working on my massive music collection at the moment. My best friend introduced my to a ton o genres growing up so let's say I developed diverse tastes.

I am going to give Mediamonkey a try for music. 580GB, ~44k music files. I have an old iPod that I am going to use at work and use MM to feed it. I don't want to use up the battery/storage on my phone playing music. I am carrying 2 phones iPhone 14 strictly for work and an older Pixel (soon to be upgraded) for Personal/work use.

Jumping in here, I tried to configure Plex once again for the umtenth time. As I stated elsewhere I am looking to supplement my WD pr4100 with a DAS for media storage and distribution.
As I stated before I have a massive audio and video collection,of particularly older, really hard to find stuff. Every time I try to configure Plex I fear it just becomes overwhelmed and doesn't really work. I try to limit my audio collection to a non losses format (FLAC) and video to H264, 8000 bit rate and 1080p. Neither of these are famous for saving space on a HD but give accurate reproduction and will play on every type of player I use.
Currently I manually sort things on the NAS and use My Cloud software for remote playing, I use a remote desktop program to control a computer on the LAN to modify or add files to the NAS. It works very well with the exception I don't have the luxury of the enhanced beautiful program listing menu Plex provides.
I keep thinking I must be doing something wrong. It's frustrating but I just keep reading and trying. I can't help but think if I am having so many problems, why just me? Many of the members here use and love the program. My goal now is to build the DAS and slowly populate it with Plex server resident starting with zero files and working my way up as files are added.
Until then, it's me and my NAS with the thumbnail maker for previews. Wish me luck. I am curious exactly how many files can be added until Plex starts acting like the way it does with my current collection.
