Hi!
After a Software installation, my laptop is no longer able to boot.

I have the loggin PIN( used to loggin durring normal startup ) for the Admin Account on the Laptop, and also the Microsoft Account password for the email associated with the Admin Account.

From the startup Recovery menu I do have some options( like 'Command Prompt', 'Reinstall and keep files' and 'Restorepoint' ), but all them options are asking for the Account Password( displaying . Inputting any of the passwords doesn't work.

Does anyone know why my passwords are not being accepted, or what specific password it is asking for?

never trusted microsoft restore i always used ghost and just trialing clonezilla atm cause of new motherboard. If you have a spare pc pull the drive and copy everything to a spare drive then do a fresh install. if you can split the drive into 2 partitions at least, then you can save everything to the D drive. This lets you reinstall and not lose the files and apps that are important to you :(

Thank you, I will look into Clonezilla as soon as I get this issue resolved!

Q#1
I'd like to regain access to my drive and retrieve some important files of mine, but most kinds of access through Windows Recovery Mode( for example CommandPrompt or SystemRestore ) is asking me for Admin Password for an email address. The loggin PIN I've been using for the Admin Account is not accepted, same goes for the Microsoft Account Password of the email address.

Does anyone know why my passwords are not being accepted, or what specific password it is asking for?

"If you have a spare pc pull the drive and copy everything..."

Te-Slappa, how would I go about "pulling the drive and copying everything" if I can't gain access to the drive?

Do a search for Medicat USB. It contains a detailed suite of password removal tools. It can get you into just about anywhere with the exception of BIOS passwords.

to pull a drive out of a laptop go to youtube and type in upgrade hard drive then the model of your laptop or pc and then heaps of vids how to do this will come up. dont just click and copy the first one watch several just to make sure and then you can put the hdd/ssd into another machine or a hdd caddy that plugs into a usb port. if its an older pc i recommend Symantec Ghost to clone the drive to a file on a separate hard drive unfortunately i could not get clonezilla to work on my new pc build but found a setting in bios to boot with legacy support and now ghost works again

Hello there, one possibility could be the password you use to log into Windows, and the other could be your microsoft password.

Thanks all!
I'll try Mediacat USB, see how it goes and let you know how it went.

I'd still like to know what password the Laptop is requesting of me. I'm 100% sure that the Admin loggin(PIN) for the Laptop and the MicrosoftAccount( Outlook ) password of the displayd email is correct. I've tried both and they don't work, in the Recovery mode.

Could it be that some files or sumethin is damaged resulting in passwords not being accepted?
Or maybe the password requested is some kind of local password, like maybe the very first Loggin/Admin password( created many years ago ), that I have changed to something new as time has gone by?

Give Medicat USB a try and take a look at the results. Your answer should be in the results. Try a couple of the provided packages.

I'm trying to run the Medicat .bat installer from the HD of an older Win7 Laptop, but am getting an error message stating curl.exe can't be found.

Antly idea what curl.exe is or why it can't be found?
Maybe Win7 is just to old and raggedy to run anything current/ modern?

I have had Defender flag harmless but useful necessary parts of portable programs like this one. Microsoft doesn't like the fact that it could be used to deal with passwords and yanks it. Have you checked your A/Vs quarentine to see if it might be there. I should have warned you to completely turn off defender before even dowloading Medicat USB. Make sure you disable real time protection a seperate setting in Defender. I can't recall if this applies in Win 7, it's been a long time now. L3t VirusTotal scan any files you find questionable.

Might be a good suggestion

If your on windows 10 and can get to the command prompt

Type fixmbr and hit enter

When done

Type fixboot and hit enter

When done reboot It should load right up as normal
