Qbittorrent Best settings for control and speed

Ok as we all know the torrenting scene changes every day with new protocols one needs a fast and mean setup.

1 ) Lets start by opening Qbittorrent and under TABS select Options as shown in the image Below




2 ) NOW SELECT THE Connection Tab and set the settings as shown in the image below




3 ) Select the Speed Tab and set the settings as shown in this image below.

Note the Global Rate Limit DOWNLOADS is set to 15mb or 15360KB/s this is
where we control the download speed we want to achieve.
(EXAMPLE) I have a 947MB upload and a 947MB Download I set the download
speed in my case to minimize the impact on my connection when I am Downloading
I chose 15MB works fine for me in many cases with just 1 seeder I get 15MB.
I have seen tutorials suggesting we set the global rate limit to 80% of your connection
speed we suggest 2% to 10% otherwise others on the same connection will be slow and choppy at 80%




4 ) In the BitTorrent Tab set the settings as shown in the image below.



5 ) The trackers list below contains the best trackers both regular and VPN

One more VERY important setting. ALWAYS use a VPN and make sure you bind qBittorrent's Network interface to your VPN's secure tunnel. In my case it's TorGuard Wireguard's Tunnel. This will prevent you making a P2P connection with your public ISP IP and get one of those nasty emails.

I Use Surfshark with the IKE2 protocol best way to check it is to use https://ipleak.net and be careful with the other protocols in my test on https://ipleak.net torrents leak your IP with other protocols. I always use https://ipleak.net and activate the Torrent option then wait a few seconds and it will produce a IP result and if you see your actual IP it is leaking. See the image(s) below.

A quick note IKE2 vs WireGuard in my test with these 2 protocols IKE2 will hit my set speed quickly in Qbittorrent and with WireGuard in many test for the same torrent will produce a slower start time and the torrent speeds for the same file with Wireguard in most cases were slower.

Wireguard for the same download
will produce in many cases 3 to 400kbps

This result was very interesting as if I do a speed test with each protocol in OOKLA IKE2 test are slower than the speeds test for WireGuard shows but IKE2 produces much faster torrent downloads than the WireGuard.

Honestly Troypoint has turned into a big morass of affiliate links for the site owner. Any credibility he had was some time ago.
My own feelings are you need to consider the security of each protocol and not just weigh net performance. After all you aren't playing a game where fps means everything. It's already common knowledge that wireguard provides the most secure platform, while choosing others may improve throughput slightly in underpowered systems, you are sacrificing security.
It appears the DMCA bounty hunters are hard at work lately and any time you can improve you anonymity esp. In P2P transactions, the better.

commando29 when we use IKE2 even if Qbittorrent is set to "Network Interface = Any interface" IKe2 does not leak so for us with IKE2 it can just be set to any Interface.

Try it by testing it with https://ipleak.net

The Killswitch for the VPN should be on so the connection does not leak at all.

With Wireguard if it is no set in the Network interface to Wireguard, then it will leak your IP when you torrent.

So commando29 it would seem if your VPN has IKE2 protocol set that to default and in Qbittorrent, options, advanced, Network Interface set it to "any interface "

Then open https://ipleak.net then activate the torrent test and it should result in the same IP as the one shown.

Do keep in mind you may have to port forward the port you are using in Qbittorrent for downloads, and note higher ports like 63549 usually work without a port forward.

I always port forward the port I use just to be safe

FYI if you VPN does not have a settings for the protocol then most likely the IP is leaking so be careful and always test and check it with https://ipleak.net
