I've been trying to create a legit vista DVD following the procedure in this post from this site:

http://thumperdc.com/forum/legit-windows-vista-iso-s-t70614-10.<a class="postlink" href="htmlhttp://thumperdc.com/forum/legit-windows-vista-iso-s-t70614-10.html

When I try to execute X14-63452.exe the following error message is displayed:

this application has failed to start because the application configuration is incorrect.
Reinstalling the application may fix the problem.

The environment is an XP virtual machine (vmware). I've believe all relevant updates have be applied via Microsoft update service.
Tried this patch: Microsoft Visual C++ 2008 Redistributable Package (vcredist_x86.exe) ... no joy.

Downloaded the files a second time and verified the integrity with sha1 ... if at first you don't succeed try try again!!

Any advice / suggestions on how to solve this problem would be greatly appreciated.

Use ISO TO USB software to make your USB bootable, this would be more easy for you.

Good luck.

Thank you for your reply Thumper. My problem is executing X14-63452.exe to extract the files
(from boot.win & install.wim) required to create the ISO. I suspect the error message is generated
because a required DLL is not present. However I don't know how to determine which file(s) are required.

Hey Sandy,

I havent use this version if VISTA but i see possitive comments so it should work, i dont know what you did wrong but i suggest to use USB not DVD.

Good luck.

Your correct Thumper it seems as if some folks have successfully created a Vista DVD.
My problem is not creating a DVD. If I understand the procedure correctly :

1) You download the three required files into a temp directory.
2) Execute X14-63452.exe to extract the files from boot.wim & install.wim into a directory called Vista.
3) You then create a bootable USB or DVD from the files in the newly created Vista directory,

Step 2 is where I'm having problems, when I execute X14-63452.exe the following error message is displayed:

this application has failed to start because the application configuration is incorrect.
Reinstalling the application may fix the problem.

I can't create a bootable USB because I can't extract the files from the archives using X14-63452.exe.

My apologies for not clearly explaining what problem is.
Thanks again for your input Thumper.

Reason:
It cannot function properly without Microsoft Visual C++ libraries.

Solution

You should install Visual C++ in the operating system.

Download and install:
Code:
http://www.microsoft.com/download/en/details.aspx?id=5638
http://www.microsoft.com/download/en/details.aspx?id=5582

Good luck again :)

I finally got the extraction program to work Thumper. Believe it or not I executed X14-63452.exe in a
Linux environment using the wine emulator. The Vista folder was created no problem I then created the iso file.

Thanks again for your support Thumper.
