Hi all

We found event 131 on our server and need to know what IP is this

The server accepted a new UDP connection from client [fe80::dd00:3db6:d3a9:593b%5]:58699.

ramon82: since the address starts with fe80: its a Link Local address, which it has come from within your local network. This address is not routable on the internet?

By the way if you were to open a cmd prompt and enter: ping -6 -a fe80::dd00:3db6:d3a9:593b%5
It should reply if the machine is online and resolve the machine name!
Example: ping -a -6 fe80::b722:da4:b4a7:bb97%13
Reply:
Pinging DESKTOP-12 [fe80::b722:da4:b4a7:bb97%13] with 32 bytes of data:
Reply from fe80::b722:da4:b4a7:bb97%13: time<1ms

AFFASocial: This is a Link-Local address! NOT an IPv4 mapped address, nor is it an IPv4 translated address.
Just thought you should know, so youre dns checker thingy wont work..

IPV 4 and 6 are 2 entirely different animals. If you work on your own network use IPV4 after that its a matter of being at each end of an internet connection and get the IP address that way.

IPV 6 is for multicast internet a lot like torrents, multi source casting to get the speeds needed

Wasn't IPV 6 dreamed up post Y2K crisis since some doomsayers were convinced the globe would run out of IPV 4 addresses? Rather short sighted since other than smart phones most Internet traffic is routed through private networks and only one router IP is exposed coupled with the Internet is no longer reliant on 56K dial-up? Phones should be relegated to their own virtual network since their owners basically go around with with no thoughts of security

Nah I{P6 addresses were because they ran out of IP4 addresses and when multicast broadband started the addressing they found was better if they followed the lead of Bit Torrent connections, hence why your ISP throws a fit if you start using Bit torrents for dl or stream. Big boys dont like to share stolen toys.

Not sure if all DNS will return an IPV 6 address. It was one of those great ideas that never really were universally adopted. It's there if we need it. I am told they resolve faster as long as they aren't really implemented, makes sense I think. You won't see them on private LANs anytime soon, old habits die hard.
BTW IPV 4 and IPV 6 are two different animals, they are not interchangeable, you can't convert between the two.
