I was shopping around for a free secondary firewall.
A quick aside, Windows Defender has a powerful firewall. My problem is Microsoft has a bad habit of arbitrarily making silent changes to their security programs which can cause problems for us pirates.
Back to the story: One of my candidates was Comodo. Honestly I never used any of their products until last night. I won't ever bother with them again.
So I load up their "free" software. Turns out it proves to be similar to AVG, do I have to say more? It's more like a billboard for their paid products.
Then the fun begins. I attempt to uninstall Comodo's free firewall, easy right? Hold on, turns out the original install was you download a small loader. Run that loader and after reaching out to Comodo and quite some time the firewall is installed, along with the entire security suite. Then the fun begins. Their security suite loads along with the firewall and the <expletive> is running with the firewall sucking up resources as well. So what I have is a PIA firewall and a bunch of stuff running in a non functional (meaning it warns, trying to scare you into paying and that's all it does).
But wait, there's more! Try to uninstall Comodo, mission impossible. I won't go through al the crap I had to go through. In the end, thank goodness for system restore.
I have moved on to tiny firewall. It's my intention to install Photoshop on my workstation and I need a better way to make sure I block ever f'ing way Adobe attempts to call home to validate itself. Normally I wouldn't be bothered, but I have some recent steam train photos that need some things removed from them. I am going into surgery Wed., so I will have to try and stave off boredom as I will have limited mobility for a time. I severely dislocated my shoulder a couple of months ago, I have been unable to work, it's really painful. They need to go in, clean up the mess I made (it was my dog BTW) and tighten everything back up. 1- 1/12 hr surgery.
I think tiny firewall is all I really need, it gives you better function and monitoring of Windows Firewall. I don't really think I need to re-invent the wheel. The wheel isn't the problem, the GUI is.
