ESET and Bitdefender Comparisons

I was using ESET Internet Security for many years.
I tried to renew my subscription but was informed by ESET Hong Kong employees that a sub used in Hong Kong couldn't be used anywhere else. I confirmed with ESET Australia.
I was looking for alternatives, and saw Bitdefender had very high ratings in website reviews.
I chose Bitdefender Internet Security because it has the Firewall option.
Never had any problems.
A week ago I noticed expressvpn and NordVPN leftovers in the Firewall Rules.
I got in contact in Bitdefender support by email and they advised me to uninstall Bitdefender with a link they provided in the email and also a link to reinstall.

There has been a few very positive changes, like access to the "Rules" in the Firewall.
I occasionally get pop up messages from Bitdefender to provide the option where I can choose to allow or block access to apps.
They also have a very precise location of anything that needs attention to allow or block.
Bitdefender has a lot of different options to choose from for a subscription.
I am very satisfied with the safety, security and also Bitdefender support.

I had Bitdefender sub for a year a couple of years ago. Ended up installing it on GF's system. Bitdefender will keep you very safe, listen to the experts. One of my pet peeves with security programs is how nervous they can be and get in your face about dangers it encounters. I liken it to the kid in class who always had their hand up to prove to their classmates how smart they are. Don't take this wrong, there are programs which are far more offensive. I like more of a shut up and get the job I paid you to do done..
My former employer of 20+ years switched from Symantec endpoint to ESET. It never let us down. It's kind of pricey and to be honest I never installed it on a personal system. It is a quiet program but was a little heavy on resource usage for those systems at the time.
Thanks for your run down of Bitdefender. It makes it very clear what features you are getting. Yes firewalls on personal systems are changing. Microsoft it seems has pretty much taken over those duties. Somebody already mentioned it but sometimes MS updates reset all setting to factory default without any notice, a big pain and will kill some cracks. Arrrgh, that's the pirate's life, you have to stay vigilante.

I'm going to apologise beforehand as I'm a bit bored and I want to get something off my chest. It doesn't matter whether its Eset or Bitdefender or Nordvpn or anyother corporate software its the (continuous payment authorisation) That drives me nutty.

Ive been caught out with it twice and financially stung twice. The last time with a companies AV whose name starts with (Total) Not that their product is soothingly good it isn't. I was on a two year term when halfway through (one year in) I remembered to cancel the continuous authorisation as I didn't want to go with them again. Well that blew the lid off the roof as they have 'Bitchy Bots' that sniff out consumer discontent.
Over the three years I had subscribed, they had gifted me with little juicy add ons that sounded great but were in fact pretty useless. However after declining to resubscribe they were immediately removed.
Not that I cared. Bye bye Total.
Why set yourself up to make an automatic payment that may be more than you want to pay and maybe not even for that product.
Not everybody will agree I know but personally the first thing I do when signing and paying for software is to prevent auto roll over by finding (Now there's a Task) and unticking continuous payment.
Unless your in some villains line of sight. Running out of AV for half a day is not going to get you hacked to death! ps back with Eset.......almost loving it.

Yes, I don't agree with Auto-renewal set as default.
I was bitten by YouTube and expressvpn.
I had a trial with YouTube premium and cancelled before the trial had expired. They sent a message to me to confirm.
The charged me for 22 months and only gave me a 2 month refund.
expressvpn made it intentionally extremely difficult to disable Auto-renew.
I had to ask my Bank account manager to get a refund from expressvpn.
I made sure with Bitdefender that Auto-renew was disabled and they confirmed yes.
I am very cautious now with signing for any subscription.
