I recently saw a post about a new utility suite and decided to give it a try. The software promised a convenient collection of tools wrapped in a single, user-friendly GUI. Upon downloading it, however, I discovered it is essentially just a glorified browser extension.
While the feature list looks impressive at first glance, the catch becomes apparent immediately: nearly every useful function is locked behind a pricey, multi-tiered subscription model.
The reality is that these same features are readily available for free through reliable sources like Medicat USB or portableapps.com. The only real "extra" they provide is cloud storage for historical data, which is hardly worth the steep cost. For the prices they are charging, you would expect much more than basic scanning and testing tools—tasks that can easily be performed for free. If you aren't afraid to do a little digging, you can save your results to your own cloud storage like Google Drive or OneDrive at no extra cost. Save your money and look for the free alternatives.
