How would restoring a former registry backup affect a system that has had apps added/edited or deleted, among other things?

Wouldn't the restoration of old registry settings cause dissimilarity conflicts from the changes made after the backup?

Begging your pardon, but why not just make a restore point prior to each installation or major configuration of the OS, and make a note in the Restore Point Title, e.g. "B4 Adobe Reader Install", or "B4 'ABC' Script Execution"?

Also, why wouldn't doing an image backup once a month on an external SSD work better also.

Would my suggestions remove the need to restore a full registry that has old setting and perhaps SID's etc. and being stuck with all sorts of errors and perhaps having an OS freeze up, when it would be simpler to to a system restore point (which only takes a few minutes), and which never touches all the existing files and folders one has, and automatically gives one the Registry Hives to match that former state of the OS and all of its background items and processes?
