Need help installing winrar

Hi, newbie here, cool site...I am teaching much of this to myself as I am not a programmer and there is much to learn...today's problem is I downloaded Winrar 4 Beta 5 32 and 64 bit...I unloaded my trial winrar, as it said I cannot have two on my pc..so I downloaded winzip just to get the winrar file open...I am either doing this wrong, or don't know the right way to unzip the program..I did unzip it but then it keeps asking me what program I want to use to open it, windows cannot open a rar file...any help would be greatly appreciated and I hope I have found a safe intelligent home to seek knowledge...thank you, Michael (or muddey if you prefer) you can write me at [email protected] as well as post answer here, thanks again...
