We used to get a ton of damaged students laptops. Cracked screens were #1, spilled liquids were #2. Power jacks #3. The rest were plastic bits being damaged, circuit boards damaged (USB jacks shorting out and who knows what else). These recommendations assume that kids will handle these like the fragile electronics they are, haha. The biggest laugh is the Surface. They have got to be kidding, drop one of those and it's toast and repairs on a Surface are nearly impossible. These reads like an ad paid for by the perspective manufacturers. Belive it or not, iPads with Apple Care seem to have had the best luck from all the parents I have spoken to.
