I got my laptop from a pawnshop...apparently the previous owner never activated Windows 10 so the "please activate Windows" was ever-present in the lower right hand corner.

Eventually I downloaded Kmspico, used it, and it went away after a reboot.

Afterward, I found and installed a cracked version of Office 2010. Or so I thought it was cracked, as the red banner about it not being activated popped. So I deleted it.

Now, I've found an ISO of Office 2016. I want to use Kmspico, but 1) don't I have to run some program to make sure the remnants of Office 2010 are gone? 2) will running Kmspico again, to activate Office 2016, do anything bad to whatever it did to activate Windows 10?

Thanks in advance.

Hi,

Use KMSpico again.

Several excellant programs that are 100% better than KMSPico. So the easy way would be do a 100% clean install of both Windows and Office. that will get rid of KMSPico crap. The Program i would recommend you use "Digital License KMS38". which is a OEM check, test and Activation. Once done you have a Genuine MS Digital License. all you need to do is Login to your MS Account. then Activate. with "Digital License KMS38".

Problem is I don't have another copy of Windows 10. The laptop didn't come with an installation disk, just Windows 10 already installed but unactivated. The Kmspico I used (KMSpico 10.1.8 FINAL + Portable (Office and Windows 10 Activator)) successfully removed the "Activate Windows" notice. And it wasn't cosmetic as I now have access to customize certain things (not as much as Pro but still access).

If using it again after installing Office 2016 won't conflict with anything I'll give it a shot. But now I'm wondering about the ISO. I didn't get it via torrent, but rather...a Google search. :) I'll keep everyone posted.

OK easy to get you a NEW Genuine Copy of Windows 10. MediaCreationTool and a USB, MS will help you make the BOOTABLE Win 10 Installable USB. with which you canInsert the USB, Boot to, move to DELETE/Format the old OS "C:" then reinstall a CLEAN New. then use the KMS38 to Activate you new soon to be Genuine OEM Activated.

it wasn't from the previous owner
the pawn shop wiped the laptop, or it came wiped maybe
and they installed basic trial version of windows, basically windows without a key
really you should just use linux, but... since ppl want to use windows, without paying money...
some ppl have a hassle free time of it with 'kmspico'... i say why bother?
.
lol, "genuine OEM activated" ok
realize you are violating some law somewhere

Hi,

Use KMSpico again.

I did and so far so good. Guess I was worried for nothing. :)

Ah. Buyer beware as they say. Regardless of its problems (the Windows issue + bad battery) its a pretty good laptop. I have no regrets. Hopefully it lasts for a while. But so far so good.

I don't know if a pawn shop would be a good place to buy a used system. Glad to hear your experience was a good one.
FYI Don't buy laptop batteries off ebay. Amazon is a much better choice. Amazon does a better job of policing their venders and holds them responsible. Ebay sellers can string you along forever until they wear you down and ebay has no remedy for that. Ebay sellers know that. There is a lot of really lousy 3rd party replacement laptop batteries for sale so choose wisely and go with a vendor with good reviews. (hint-hint Use fakespot)
As far as Windows 10 on your laptop. What O/S did the OEM originally sell it with? If it's Windows 7 it should have a COA attached to it, more than likely under the battery if it's removable. Otherwise what brand is it, I have seen them all. That COA number will validate an OEM copy of Win 10 the respective version will correlate to the COA version of Win 7.
If it's Win 8 or later it will just not ask or if it does just select "I don't have a key". There should be a square Windows sticker on the bottom of your system. If it's blue choose home edition, brown pro edition. This will correspond with the Windows serial number embedded in the laptop's BIOS. If you can go legal, you should. One less problem to troubleshoot when problems dome up.

Duly noted. :)

I just checked...its Windows 7. There's a sticker with Windows 7 and a product key for that, but the laptop came with Windows 10 already on it.

So if it had a legal copy of Windows 7 on it when the original owner bought it, why was there an unactivated version of Windows 10 on it when I got it? Kinda strange. Either way I have both this version of Windows 10 and now Office 2016 activated via KMSpico, not sure how I can undo that. Even if I figure out how just to have a legal version of Windows 10 (assuming that product key for Windows 7 works), that leaves Office 2016.

I might be stuck until my next computer. I don't plan on using this forever anyway, I just needed something in the meantime since my desktop is horribly outdated. I'd rather have a legal version of Windows 10 Pro and Office 2019 I figure I'll cross that bridge with I build my dream desktop.

Well that's why you should be a system from a computer professional. If your system was reloaded with an OEM copy of Win 10 (the copy you download from M/S will work just fine) entering your Win 7 product key the install will automatically select the proper version. Unless someone did something funky with your key before you bought your laptop it will activate just fine once online. Office is an entirely different story which is why M/S goes to such lengths to protect that set of programs. No free lunches for Office.

i found a good laptop battery on ebay
they have reputable sellers as well as some shady ones, as any market
i don't use amazon because they are robot future, automation, what they call 'transhuman'
in other words, they hire people at a very low wage and work them to death
robots do much of the work there, instead of people
they are 'anti-human'
but anyway...
lol
ebay is fine, just be careful, check reputation and feedback, etc.

;ebay is real people, only, no central warehouse, no 'buy from ebay', like 'buy from amazon' (they undercut their own partner sellers, and everyone else, mom and pop stores, etc)
basically amazon = borg
death of humanity

I've often had a lot of success with "Microsoft Toolkit vs. 2.6.2". It works with All version of windows plus most versions of MS Office. There are earlier versions as well which also work.

Why not just buy a copy of Office from ebay - you can get the latest version for less than £10, lifetime product key, no subscription, etc.

???
i thought office was purely subscription based now, sounds like a joke, or fake anyway
besides, there's LibreOffice, i mean... cmon

It is not fully subscription based. I have purchased at least a dozen product keys for Office 2016 and 2019 over the past couple of years from ebay, all legit and all work perfectly. I presume you're from the USA - I'm sure people are selling them there as well but even if not, purchase a product key and link to download from someone in the UK. Check it out!
