I use mine as part of home theater setup. It handles all the video processing, etc. editing, and everything you can think of. I couple that with a 4 bay NAS. Getting ready to include a HDHome run. There are a bunch of program alternatives to Win 10 although they may not support the programs you wish to run as DaaS. That's why Win 10 is possibly the best answer despite it's downsides. I guess if you can define your needs, you can map out what you can or cannot run there are good robust alternative O/Ses. Reddit has a good sub for home servers to see what others do with a setup such as yours.
Personally I do run Win 10 to allow flexibility and yes it's a pain for networking and I tend to curse when I have to set up another user access. I understand why you ask your question, but the best answer I can give is, "Depends". Sorry.
