Corrupted NTUSER.DAT file

That's a very good question. It's possible it would work if they were both generated from the exact same account. Did you try to do a system restore to an earlier time? A fresh NTUSER.DAT file would be generated pretty much based on the entries in the registry.
This is a new one to me. How did that file become corrupt in the first place
