Depends on file type and what happened to it. Technically a file encrypted by ransomware isn't damaged. A damaged file is either missing chunks of data or for some reasons checksum does not match real-time data verification. File repair programs contain algorithms that attempt to recreate missing data much like codecs replace data in compressed but with less accuracy. You are better off backing up important data to an off-site source or at least a source not part of the system you are backing up.That sounds super frustrating! I’ve heard there are some tools that can help fix broken files—maybe give one of those a shot. Hope you get everything back soon!
