SSD tech is NOT more reliable than HDD tech for 2 reasons.
1. SSD drives have a finite lifespan THEY WILL DIE! I have a well used 20MB (megabyte!) MFM HDD built in the mid 1980's that's still kickin' and will continue as such as long as replacement parts are still available.
2. ALL modern SSD drives are basically several smaller 'drives' running in a striped RAID0 configuration. Couple that with built-in on-the-fly encryption of that RAID0 cluster and you have a ticking time bomb. Backing up an SSD is mandatory, because when they go they take all your data with them with no shot of ever getting it back. The old, yet slow magnetic medium is like a vault as long as you keep any electromagnets away from them. Even severe head crashes can be dealt with no matter if they are striped or not.
