Hey everyone,

so in windows insider builds, defenders blocks or deletes my important documents/ files, and nothing saved it, no recycle bin or any exclusive software.

I am unable to recover my data with any file recovery tool also, can you guys help me out with any other options.

Unfortunately, this is a known risk with Windows Insider builds, especially when using Defender in aggressive or experimental modes.

Here are the important points and what you can still try:

  1. Check Windows Defender Protection History
Sometimes files are not permanently deleted but quarantined.
    Go to:
Windows Security → Virus & threat protection → Protection history
Look for the detected items and see if Restore is available.
  2. Check Controlled Folder Access
Defender may have blocked or moved files silently.
Windows Security → Ransomware protection → Controlled folder access
    Check blocked actions and exclusions.
  3. Shadow Copies / Previous Versions
Right-click the parent folder → Properties → Previous Versions
If System Protection was enabled, you might recover an older snapshot.
  4. Windows File History / OneDrive
If File History or OneDrive backup was enabled, check there immediately.
  5. Reality check (important)
If Defender securely deleted the files (not quarantined) and the drive is SSD, recovery is usually impossible due to TRIM.
That’s why recovery tools show nothing — the data is already wiped at block level.
  6. For the future (strong advice)

  • Do not use Insider builds on machines with important data
  • Disable Defender real-time protection or add exclusions for critical folders
  • Keep offline backups (external drive or cloud)

Sadly, if no backups, no shadow copies, and no quarantine entries exist, there is no reliable way to recover the files.

And when you have recovered your files, it might be an idea to look for a way better set of internet protection utilities.

Personally and this is not a plug, just a repeated message in the hope that it may get through

COMODO INTERNET SECURITY

Im not going to link it, not going to post a fake entry point to it. Just going to say Home users it tends to be free just let the paid or free trial expire and its yours to use at Home free.

Ive used the company since 2012 and never had a single issue with it. Turn Defender OFF it sux.
