Windows 10 : same license in virtual box?

Hi,

I got a computer with an official Windows 10 pro license.

I have installed virtual box and would like to create a partition within virtual box, with also Windows 10 pro.
( just for testing and playing around ;) )

My question is:
- Can I install a copy of my original Windows 10 pro? ( will it be seen as legal also?)
- Can I e.g. two times install my windows 10 in virtual box, as long they are installed all on the same machine,
and being seen as legal?

Depends. Is your machine an OEM win 8 or later? Then the BIOS will handle the overhead. I am not even sure how M/S identifies systems and logs them when you authenticate Win 7 or better or if that even takes place anymore. Either way I think you should be ok if you enter the CD key, COA key or whatever you care to call it on the same system.

Thanks for the reply!

I got time today to read some stuff on it. It is not really clear due to so many different situations. The (Lenovo) computer runs Windows 10 pro, I had bought a cheap official OEM license online. (seems to be legal in my country.)
To be on the safe side, I bought another license today, just to run Windows in Virtual box. ($22).

Granted as a buyer it's not your problem at all so no worries. Now the seller, well good ol' m/s is always on the lookout for them and they at least used to make examples of them and it would cost sellers $$$. I know someone that happened to with Office some time ago. What you are doing should work fine. I hope you got the original COA. If the COA number gets used too often it's blacklisted. I wasn't aware there were printed OEM COA's for Windows 10 except for refurbs. OEM resales were the primary reason m/s had the OEMs embed them into the BIOS since Windows 8.
