how to activate windows 8?

I downloaded Windows 8 from Pirate bay. It came with a key but it said it would not be activated. What good is it if it can't be activated? What does it mean anyway? Activated seems like it needs to be activated to use it. or not , do tell, It said at the torrent to go here for a solution.
