Here's a great example of why Windows Defender is crap, yes it's better than nothing, but for the Computer Hobbyist is your worst enemy.

This was attached to Winareotweaker a popular long standing clean software provider mind you. All this program does is return the handy features from Win 10 to Win 11 I wanted back. Nobody from M/S asked me if I wanted them gone.

Yeah, what Mr Dog says.

Defender, only thing it defends is stopping you from getting access to unlocking software. As for sorting out VIRUSES, MALWARE, SPYWARE, RANSOMWARE, ADWARE and Underwear its pretty much PANTS all round. But you try to download a Workaround shall we say for a program and it immediately wakes up and stops you. BUT it doesnt tell you its done it and trying to trace what its done can be a nightmare to the uninitiated.

Windows Security generally is about like going to Wallmart and paying $2 for something that youd normally pay $300 for the shock horror, its cheap and it runs like cheap, acts like cheap and is as much use as a Seive for picking up water it all falls through.

Where what and how it does it wont tell you, unless you know where to look and how to get at it. So be warned, Just because its free doesnt mean it works.

Shameless Advertising time and no I dont get commision on this so its a copy and paste to use in GOOGLE

=====================================================================================

COMODO INTERNET SECURITY.

Consists of Industry standard Virus Protector,
Customisable FireWall,
Comodo Dragon, Secure Browser for all your banking needs and online trading.
Secure Sandbox, use it if you arent sure if a program is genuine or not to test it out in a fully safe environment.
State of the Art Virus database and tracker. If it finds one it tells you what and where and asks if you want to take action.

Dead simple to use and best past is its free. OR you can pay a yearly subscription to add the full automation routines then sit back and go where you want.

=====================================================================================

Ive been using this for over 12 years now without a single major issue.

Back to defender

Close it for good with one simple to add Registry Key DWord

This video shows you how and what to do. Ive used it loads of times when installing new AV software on client machines to prevent Defender from interferring.

Need help with it then just ask

Amen. It's turned into more of Microsoft's spy into your activities and to prevent you installing anything Microsoft doesn't think is legit. More of a nuisance than a means of keeping your system secure. Back in the days Norton was the accepted popular A/V. What happened is virus writers would target getting by Norton to infect your system, now it's defender

Well it has to be said, back in the days of XP Norton was the be all and end all of available system protection. Even at work they prefer it, guess they like spending money on junk. I got formally warned NEVER to remove the Norton stuff off any computer because it will cause system wide errors. Lol oh well it looks pretty and pretty much everyone knows how to click through the warnings.

And if memory serves I used to have a hacked copy of Norton 2000 that worked for years prior to going Comodo.
