So I recently installed Adobe Acrobat DC, and it works great, but my antivirus (Malwarebytes) is now saying that there's a malware file called "HackTool:Win32/Keygen" on my system. Is this a virus? If I delete it, will Acrobat stop working?

Thank you, I appreciate any feedback!

Patch may be detected as virus, but simple ignore it.

Hello.

I experienced the same phenomenon as you.
"HackTool: Win 32/Keygen" detected. Specifically, I downloaded "Adobe Acrobat Pro DC 2021.007.20102 FULL [TheWindowsForum.com]" from 1377 x and detected it as soon as I unsecured it.

But the owner looks trustworthy, and I ’ m not panicking because windows defender removed HackTool: Win 32/Keygen.

Rather, I'm worried that acrobat won't install because "HackTool: Win 32/Keygen" has been removed. I am going to install acrobat now.

I'm sorry I didn't answer. Owner, I look forward to your reply. Sorry for my poor English. ^^;

I think the HackTool file is necessary for Acrobat to work. When I quarantined it, Adobe started asking me to log in, even though I had wifi disabled. I had to restore the file and run the patch a second time to get Acrobat working again. I'm just a little nervous because VirusTotal also seems to think it's a malicious file...

You need that HackTool as the name say it's not a virus is a keygen. A keygen will generate a serial code that will register the program.

All keygen and patch tools are HackTools it is normal ignore it. Of course they can be virus but that is rare. If they don't break Windows on startup, they're safe.

most AV software vendors listed on virustotal are too LAME to even go the step of identifying something as a hacktool. Most will just shrug and say "trojan" without any explanation. I disregard most all of these and look to results from a few such as Kaspersky and Malwarebytes, ...after all, so many trojans come from Russia, these guys would know the difference!

You understand that if you get the software for free that the "hacktool/keygen" makes it so that Adobe doesn't detect that it's pirated software. If you want the REAL Adobe Acrobat DC then you have to pay for it.
