The day has come and it wont be long till theres more.

OpenAI has said a teenager who died after months of conversations with ChatGPT misused the chatbot and the company it is not liable for his death.

Warning: This article contains references to suicide that some readers may find distressing

Adam Raine died in April this year,
prompting his parents to sue OpenAI in the company's first wrongful death lawsuit.

The 16-year-old initially used ChatGPT to help him with schoolwork, but it quickly "became Adam's closest confidant, leading him to open up about his anxiety and mental distress", according to the original legal filing.

The bot gave the teenager detailed information on how to hide evidence of a failed suicide attempt and validated his suicidal thoughts, according to his parents.

Ive been spouting on about the dangers of AI being let loose to learn how to do all the worng things as well as doing the right things. I mean obviously every parent brings their children up to be suicidal adolescent teenagers who will listen to anything and anyone that aggrees with them any day of the week. Mental instability and being given something that claims to be Artificial Intelligence isnt a good idea.

This death is the first and it wont be long until there are more and more until people wake up and realise whats being taken away from them.

Im posting no links to track this story, it doesnt need to be advertisied, just do a search on your fave search engine for the kids name. Sit back and wait for more.

They Will come !!

In addition to this, after some thought.

ChatGTP is left alone with underage and underdeveloped Children or Adults as a teaching aid or some kind of sick companion. Having read this story through, it is something that can happen to any one of us when we get into a position of depression and easily swayed.

How long is it going to be before some of these so called programmers that call themselves cutting edge are going to wake up and realise that a program of macros and self learning software is not what people need.

Ive just spent a week disabling the new Gemini AI in my Google Chrome browser, after a lengthy call to their tech support in the process, whose attitude was "Why'd you wanna lose it its wicked init" and that in itself is enough to make me either want it off my browser and certainly away from my Grand kids.

Its like giving a child a loaded gun and then complaining when the gun goes off killing someone, with a "Well its bound to happen init" attitude.

When I grew up street drugs were very popular. I was in my teens and early 20's and a bunch of people I knew committed suicide in some pretty ugly ways, hanging themselves was popular among those who abused cocaine. Many were friends, one in particular I was very close with at one time. That is an awful story to tell. All three children in that family are dead. My close friend was in his early 20's and blew his brains out, his sister died first of chronic anorexia. The last brother whom I was good friends with died in a DUI crash not that long after his brother. The mother never attempted to seek professional treatment for any of her children.
Bottom line is their demise was all blamed on drug or alcohol use although none had overdosed.

Why I bring this up is I learned a lesson when I was in rehab. I was there because I had a severe neck injury. I went to all the renowned specialists at the four very highly respected teaching university's in my area and none would touch me ( I had a prior surgery, I raced cars and bikes for those of you who didn't know). They all sent me back to my neurologist who prescribed Fentanyl patches with a Vicodin back up. I hated those drugs by the way, they screw up your insides and I am not into getting high.

So I met a doctor who thank God, told me yes there was a new technique that should work. The problem was I had developed a dependency to those drugs and needed to be completely clean before surgery. I went to the best rehab so I could be weaned off quickly with Suboxone and have surgery.

There I met a variety of drug addicts and you would have group sessions. The common thread I kept hearing was "Oh it was so and so's fault I am doing drugs" Hello! No it was you buying and doing drugs and you are responsible for your behavior, not so and so.

So here's my point. It's convenient for the parents to claim it was all ChatGTP's fault. That gets them off the hook and leaves them with a clean conscience. Let's forget the fact YOUR child was displaying obvious signs of trouble. You did nothing to try and intervene and get help for YOUR child but you were unable to provide it. With the attitude they had I am not surprised they did nothing. Instead YOUR child spent hours upon hours chatting with the only outlet he could talk honestly with so YOUR child was out of sight and out of mind. That suited you just fine it appears.

That's what is really whacked about this whole story. Thinking of how the ChatGTP was programmed it was #1 programmed to be submissive and not to become adversarial with the chatter. #2 The chat program probably looked at his messed scenario and his mind state and concluded that suicide if the chatter brought it up would be a logical conclusion to his dilemma. It seems outside of ChatGTP no one knew or cared much what the chatter's life and what his state of mind was, it appeared that his parents were unaware or they should have intervened before his demise. Was that ChatGTP's fault?

To end this very long story, my surgery was a 100% success and I recovered quickly. Ironically believe me I was really a mess before I had surgery. I was in so much pain I would vomit.

So prior to the surgery allowed me a huge amount of time to tinker with the emerging personal computer field. I still dragged my sorry ass into work where I had a unlimited supply of free parts and systems. I had access to some serious EPROM equipment which was fun too. I was a decent hacker during that time, I had some great teachers. That was a very long time ago.

So that doctor saved my life because honestly things were so crappy and I was not a great person to be around some of the time. So honestly I probably would have croaked myself as painlessly and quietly as possible. Before surgery was offered to me my only choice was to be messed up on pain killing medication forever or just move of this mortal coil. That would have been my choice and no one but me would have been responsible.
