You got it on kickass, and in the .txt file :) you wrote " add this to the hosts file" .... But add what?

Instructions:
1) Stop the application if started
2) Add this in hosts files (which can be found here: C:\Windows\System32\drivers\etc , make sure to run your notepad as administrator)
3) Install application using provided installer and do not reboot and make sure that Driver Genius is closed
4) Copy and replace crack file (DriverGenius.cfg) in to installation directory
5) Open Driver Genius and use this serial for registration: KX98-KN9RM-Q9WVK-F759T-YSK2B-98AS6

DONE!

Hi,

Im really sorry i forgot to add text for hosts file.

You need to add below text in your hosts files:
Code:
127.0.0.1 http://www.driver-soft.com
127.0.0.1 http://www.driver-soft.com

Im sorry again.

Alas... I've been trying to get it to work for awhile, I have a bum USB driver preventing any sort of high speed fun for awhile now. Best wishes.

That is not the correct syntax for a hosts file. The correct syntax is as so:

Code:
127.0.0.1 www.driver-soft.com driver-soft.com

The hosts file is for IPs and hostnames, not URLs.

I would also recommend blocking outgoing connections to driver-soft.com's IP address. In addition, you can also run a packet sniffer and see exactly where it's trying to connect to, and then block traffic to all of those IPs.

After testing this myself, here's what you need to know:

The serial number mentioned here is valid and works. The only issue is that the app calls home and checks its status, which will then lead to the error, as too many people are using it. If it cannot reach the server, however, it will accept the serial and become registered. It seems that this is the only time that you need to prevent access to driver-soft.com. Steps to take:

  1. Keep your text editor open (run it as Administrator to edit the hosts file) and comment the line you added out with a # character, and save.
  2. Run Driver Genius. If the line in the hosts file isn't commented out, then the driver database will fail to download. This is why we have to do it this way.
  3. When you are ready to enter the serial, uncomment the line in the hosts file (remove the '#'), save the file, and proceed with entering the serial.
  4. After the serial is accepted and the application is registered, you can re-comment that line (re-add the '#' to the beginning) and use the program as usual. As far as I know, blocking access is only necessary during registration. After that, it should remain unblocked so that the application can download the driver data.

Isn’t the term “driver genius “ an oxymoron? I have seen those programs do far more harm than good. Go to the manufacturer site for vetted drivers appropriate for their hardware.
If you have to punt at least get some info from someone who already had your problem.

@ThumperTM - Do you know what the exe that connects to the internet to verify licensing?

I'm just wondering as instead of blocking using the hosts, why not use my Firewall Blocker and stop that exe from connecting to the internet.

This is an old release, as @DVDR_Dog said, best we can do is downloading drivers from manufacturer site.
