Holy crap that was pretty long winded. Windows used to look at Bios time but it doesn't really care once it's online and talks to Windows time. The default time zones programs some programs use seems to be tied to regional pride.
Windows and Apple use the left coast time, a couple of programs which I don't recall use Central time. I guess Eastern time is the red-headed stepchild although most people in the US live in that time zone.
That being said, it's always a good idea to keep BIOS time correct for a number of reasons.
There used to be a number of cracks that relied on changing the system time to keep the program within the free trial period but those are useless these days.
I never heard of a virus or malware that messed with system time and honestly I can't visualize what advantage may be gained, but who knows, I learn something new every day.
