Where`s my files?

I ran into a problem with my external Samsung 1TB SSD. I have four partitions on it, and suddenly I no longer have access to one of them. “Access denied” is the message I get in File Explorer. What’s strange is that I have full access to the same partition when I connect the device to my Samsung Smart TV. Any ideas?

The "Access denied" error in Windows while the Samsung SSD works on a TV indicates a permission restriction, file system corruption, or driver issue, rather than hardware failure. To fix this, update security permissions in Windows, run chkdsk to repair file systems, or update USB drivers, allowing your user account to take ownership of the drive.
Steps to Fix "Access Denied" on Windows
  • Take Ownership of the Drive:
    1. Connect the SSD to your PC.
    2. Right-click the drive in File Explorer, select Properties, and go to the Security tab.
    3. Click Advanced, then click Change next to the Owner field.
    4. Type your Windows username, click Check Names, then OK.
    5. Check "Replace owner on subcontainers and objects" and click Apply.
    6. Under the Security tab, click Edit to grant your user account Full Control.
  • Run CHKDSK to Repair File System:
    1. Open Command Prompt as Administrator.
    2. Type chkdsk X: /f /r (replace X with your SSD's drive letter) and press Enter. This repairs corruptions that might allow TV access but block Windows.
  • Change Drive Letter:
    1. Right-click the Start button and select Disk Management.
    2. Right-click the problematic partition and select Change Drive Letter and Paths.
    3. Assign a new, unique letter to the drive.
  • Reinstall USB Drivers:
    1. Open Device Manager, expand Universal Serial Bus controllers.
    2. Right-click your Samsung SSD driver and select Uninstall device.
    3. Disconnect the drive, restart your PC, and reconnect it.
  • Check Security Software:
Sometimes third-party antivirus software restricts access to external drives. Temporarily disable it to see if access is restored.
If these steps do not work, consider that the file system might be formatted in a way that the TV supports, but Windows is having trouble reading (e.g., exFAT or a specific Linux format), though taking ownership usually solves the "Access Denied" error.

ROFLMAO Welcome to BITLOCKER

Im guessing here that the partition in question may have a variation of LINUX on it of some description. This includes the installation ISO image.

Go into the settings Find BITLOCKER, turn it off and remove it from your system. Then follow Mr AFFA's instructions above.

Further issues can be dealt with once that junk is out of your life and you can breathe again.

(Before you say but BITLOCKER is so safe it protects my worldly goods, it also allows Microsoft to see what your worldly goods are )
