My Wife has an ASUS Laptop with an AMD GPU and recently updated to Windows 11.
I can download the updates but they won't install.
This never happened with Windows 10.
If any member in The Windows Forum can provide a suggestion or information.
It will be very much appreciated.

hello friend

Your issue is common on ASUS laptops after upgrading from Windows 10 to Windows 11, especially when AMD graphics or ASUS chipset drivers are outdated.
Here are a few things to try:

  1. Run Windows Update Troubleshooter
    Go to:
Settings → System → Troubleshoot → Other troubleshooters
Run “Windows Update” and let it fix anything it finds.
  2. Reset Windows Update components
Sometimes the update cache gets corrupted after the upgrade.
Open Command Prompt (Admin) and run these commands:

net stop wuauserv
net stop bits
net stop cryptsvc

ren C:\Windows\SoftwareDistribution SoftwareDistribution.old
ren C:\Windows\System32\catroot2 catroot2.old

net start wuauserv
net start bits
net start cryptsvc

  1. Update AMD drivers manually
Download the latest AMD GPU drivers from AMD’s website, not Windows Update:
    https://www.amd.com/en/support
  2. Update ASUS BIOS & Chipset
Go to the ASUS support page for your exact laptop model and install:
    • Latest BIOS
    • Latest chipset drivers
    • Latest AMD/ASUS graphics drivers
Windows 11 often refuses to install updates until BIOS/chipset are fully updated.
  3. Check storage
Make sure the system drive has at least 20–25 GB free.
  4. Run system repairs
    Open CMD (Admin) and run:

sfc /scannow
DISM /Online /Cleanup-Image /RestoreHealth

If the problem continues, it is usually caused by an outdated ASUS driver blocking Windows 11 updates.
Updating BIOS + chipset almost always fixes it.

If you can provide the ASUS model, I can check the correct drivers for you.

Hello joannee,
Thanks very much for the info.
I got in touch with AMD and the problem has been sorted out.
Very much appreciated.
