</e></QUOTE>BadPointer said:</s>I suggest using Snappy Driver Installer(SDI) instead of DriverPack Solution(DPS).<br/>
<br/>
Let me give you a few reasons:
<LIST><s></e></LIST>
- </s>
<LI><s>- </s>No one has worked on improving the driver matching algorithm in DPS for years and the reliability degraded over time. If you use DPS often, you must be familiar with such common issues as scripting errors, installing touchpad drivers on desktops, installing Realtek and Creative drivers at the same time, missing Intel USB 3.0 support, etc. If you compare the source code of DPS 12 R255 and DPS 15.11, you’ll find out that only GUI, driverpacks and adware were updated while no improvement were made on the driver matching algorithm.</LI>
<LI><s>- </s>T main goal of DPS team is to maximize the profit by reaching as many as users as possible and forcing adware on them. DPS is said to be designed for “housewifes”(as they stated themselves) who need only to press a single button and, unbeknownst to them, DPS 16 silently installs adware and tries to cover up failures by remembering failed install attempts and never suggesting installing these drivers again. However, deleting the folder with settings from APPDATA, will reveal whether the list is actually empty.</LI>
<LI><s>- </s>DPS 16 doesn’t use any of old codebase from DPS 15 but it performs even worse than the old version. It can explained by the fact that the current team doesn’t know how DPS 15 chooses drivers(the developer, who wrote the code, left for SDI) and they don’t have the expertise to write it properly from scratch. This is why DPS 15.11 is still around and users are advised to use it instead of latest DPS 16.</LI>
<LI><s>- </s>All driverpacks are actually made by SamLab and he releases them as SamDrivers. The package features both DPS and SDI. SamLab is allowed to use modified version of DPS(adware removed) for SamDrivers and the DPS team is allowed to use his driverpack for DPS.</LI><e>

Snappy Driver Installer is fork/rewrite of DPS. It’s written in C++(DPS is written in JavaScript and depends on IE). It's fast, reliable, Open Source, free of adware and puts users’ interest first, challenging the common belief that all driver updaters are scam. <br/>
<br/>
SDI is better suited for technicians because it provides advanced information about available drivers and puts the user in control. Most driver updaters suggest as many drivers as possible because users rate these apps depending on how many updated drivers they suggest even though it might increase risk of installing faulty or wrong driver. SDI errs on the safe side by default(If it ain't broke, don't fix it ) but you can make it pick drivers more aggressively.<br/>
<br/>
It uses the full set of driverpack while DPS doesn’t include some driverpacks because it can’t install some drivers without rendering the system unbootable.<br/>
<br/>
SDI also has an internal torrent client which it uses to check for and download updated driverpacks and the app whenever they became available. Driverpacks are updated each week and users from 3 major websites help seeding them for everyone else. It would be nice if a verified uploader at KAT would keep uploading the torrent at KAT. The latest torrent is available on the official website and must be upload to torrent sites.<e>
